Every week we’re on the hunt for healthy, fresh and affordable dinner ideas. Bonus points if the recipes are fast, with few dishes to clean after. And if the picky eaters in the family clean their plates, even better!
We want to help you make family meals easy, starting with your shopping list. Using ingredients from this week’s Walmart Canada flyer, these simple recipes will save you time and money with every meal.
Combine ricotta, 1 cup shredded cheese, spinach and cream of broccoli dry soup mix in medium bowl; set aside.
Spread 1 cup pasta sauce in 6-qt slow cooker. Layer in 4 lasagna noodles, broken to fit, then 1/2 of the ricotta mixture and 1 cup pasta sauce; repeat. Top with remaining 4 lasagna noodles and remaining sauce. Cover and cook on Low 4 to 5 hours until noodles are tender.
Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Cover and cook 10 minutes until cheese melts. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
Toss shrimp, butter, lemon juice, pepper and salt in a 9x13-in microwave-safe baking dish until well combined.
Microwave at 80% power until shrimp turn pink and are cooked through, about 3 1/2 minutes.
Sprinkle with parsley and toss to coat. Serve over rice, if desired.
Oil barbecue grill, then preheat to medium. Slice tomatoes into thick rounds and cut pepper into quarters. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with seasonings.
Brush one side of each slice of bread lightly with oil, then place, oiled side down, on a large cutting board, platter or baking sheet. Top 4 slices of bread with cheese, leaving a ½-inch border around edges.
Arrange all 8 slices, oiled side down, on the hot grill, alongside tomatoes and peppers. Barbecue, covered, until grill marks form, cheese begins to melt and vegetables are tender. About 2 minutes for the bread and 2 to 4 minutes per side for vegetables.
Layer cheese-topped bread slices with grilled tomatoes and peppers, then slices of ham. Top with remaining bread, grilled side up. Serve immediately.
Position rack in centre of oven, then preheat to 350°F.
Combine oats, 1 1/4 cups flour, margarine, and brown sugar in a large bowl. Mix until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup oat mixture for topping. Press remaining oat mixture evenly onto bottom of a 8- or 9-in square baking pan.
Bake until crust is light golden brown, about 13 to 15 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool slightly.
Combine blueberries, jam, lemon zest and remaining 1 tsp flour in a medium bowl. Stir to combine. Spread mixture evenly over crust to within 1/2 in of edges. Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture, patting gently.
Bake until top is light golden brown, about 20 to 22 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool completely. Cut into 10 bars. Store in a resealable container.
