It’s been another exciting week full of gaming news! We’ve seen a handful of exciting game announcements, EA announced new plans for EA Access, and an Overwatch League Grand Finals update. Check it out!
EA Access arrives on PlayStation 4 in July
EA is launching their paid subscription service to PlayStation 4 consoles in July. EA Access originally launched on Xbox One in 2014 and gave access to a rotating lineup of games. EA Access costs $4.99 CAD per month or $29.99 CAD annually on Xbox One.
Currently, titles such as Star Wars Battlefront 2, The Sims 4, and NHL 19 are available to download and play. Subscribers will also receive a 10% discount towards the purchase of EA titles and 10 hours of advanced access to launching titles.
Sony’s State of Play Announcements
Yesterday, Sony held its second online State of Play game showcase. The 12-minute show put the spotlight on PS4 titles such as MediEvil and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Also, it was revealed that Sony Worldwide Studios has partnered with IllFonic to develop Predator: Hunting Grounds, which will be launching sometime in 2020.
We also got a glimpse of AWAY: The Survival Series, Riverbond, and Sony’s new limited-edition Days of Play PlayStation 4 console.
Nintendo confirms their E3 plans
In a recent tweet, Nintendo of America outlined their plans for E3 in June. Starting on June 8th, Nintendo will hold the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019 live at The Ace Hotel in LA. Later that same day, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019 3v3 will unfold.
On Tuesday, June 11th, Nintendo will air their E3 Direct at noon EST. Nintendo aimed to set expectations by saying, “Get a look at Nintendo Switch titles for 2019”. Expect updates on Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Animal Crossing. Following the show, Nintendo Treehouse: Live will air and give an intimate look at the games featured during the livestream.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Announcement
Fans of Ghost Recon Wildlands were in for a treat this week. Ubisoft announced that the follow-up Ghost Recon Breakpoint would launch on October 4th, 2019. The open world, strategy-focused title encourages four-player co-op when diving into each mission.
In the boots of the Ghost operatives, you’ll head to the fictional island of Auroa to fight an army in control of autonomous drones. As part of the announcement, The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal will be in the game as Cole D. Walker, the main antagonist. Bernthal was recently introduced to the franchise through Operation Oracle, the latest DLC update for Wildlands. Ubisoft also touched on post-launch plans which will include new classes. Endgame raids will also be added four months after launch.
Ghost Recon will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC when it launches later this year.
Overwatch League Grand Finals announced for Philadelphia
On Wednesday, Blizzard Entertainment announced the date and location of where the Overwatch League Grand Finals will take place. The event will be held in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on September 29th, 2019. The Grand Finals event will also air exclusively on Twitch and ABC’s television network.
We’re dead smack in the middle of 2019’s Overwatch League. Fans have been witnessing quite a strong season so far. San Francisco Shock is on fire and the team was recently completing a perfect stage in the second leg of the league. As they continue to show their prowess, they get closer to the finals where they’ll compete for a share of the $1.7mil prize pool.
