A classic cookie with a little holiday twist. With a hint of nutmeg, this oatmeal spice cookies recipe is perfect to pack up in a holiday treat tin and give as a gift. Of course, they taste just as delicious all year round.

    Position racks in top and bottom thirds of oven, then preheat to 350°F. Mist 2 baking sheets with cooking spray.

    Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a medium bowl, mixing well.

    Beat sugars and margarine in a large bowl until well blended. Add applesauce, egg whites, milk and vanilla and beat well.

    Stir flour mixture into sugar mixture until well combined. Stir in oats and dried fruit (dough will be moist).

    Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets.

    Bake until edges are light golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes, rotating sheets halfway. Cool on baking sheets for 1 minute then remove to a wire rack and cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
