Asian-Style Pork Tenderloin Recipe

Hoisin sauce complements any meat or poultry, but goes particularly well with pork and lamb. In this pork tenderloin recipe it's accented by Chinese five-spice powder, and tastebud-tingling mix of anise, fennel, Szechuan pepper, cinnamon and cloves.

    Stir soy sauce, sugar, hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, ginger and garlic in a shallow dish. Add pork, turning to coat completely. Cover with plastic. Marinate in refrigerator 4 hours or overnight.

    Position rack in centre of oven, then preheat to 375°F. Spray a 2-L baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Add pork and marinade to prepared dish.

    Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of tenderloin reads 160°F, about 25 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.

    TIP: Five-spice powder is a spice blend frequently used in Asian cuisine. To make five spice powder, combine 1 tsp each ground star anise, ground fennel seed, ground Szechuan pepper and 1/2 tsp each ground cinnamon and ground cloves.
