    Preheat barbecue to medium-high.

    Gently mix beef, bacon and 1/4 cup barbecue sauce in a large bowl until just blended. Divide into 4 portions. Form each into a 1/2-in thick patty.

    Oil grill. Barbecue burgers for 7 minutes. Flip burgers. Continue grilling, brushing with remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of burger reads 160°F, about 5 to 7 more minutes.

    Top each patty with a cheese slice. Continue grilling until cheese melts, about 1 minute.

    Layer bottom buns with onion, lettuce, cheeseburgers and tomato slices. Sandwich with top buns.
