Chocolate Chip Tree Cookies
Position rack in centre of oven, then preheat to 350°F.
Break up cookie dough with your hands in a large bowl. Divide dough in half. Wrap each portion with plastic wrap. Freeze for 10 minutes.
Roll one portion of dough into 1 1/2-in balls. With floured hands, roll each ball into a 10-in rope, about 1/4-in wide. Break off a small piece off the end of each rope for the "tree trunk".
Carefully place ropes on a baking sheet. With each rope, starting at one end, snake rope back and forth into a triangle and tree shape, gradually making larger rows at the other end (rows of dough should touch). If rope breaks, press dough together. Place reserved small piece of dough at large end of each tree. Repeat with remaining dough.
Bake until edges are light golden brown, about 9 to 11 minutes. Cool cookies on sheet for 1 minute, then transfer cookies to a rack to cool completely, about 15 minutes.
Pour melted chocolate into a piping bag fitted with a small round tip. Drizzle each cooled cookie with melted chocolate. Immediately arrange candies on top of drizzled chocolate to look like ornaments or lights.
