    Preheat barbecue to high.

    Season steaks on both sides with salt and pepper. Oil grill. Barbecue steaks, turning halfway, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in centre of steaks reads 145°F, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board and cover loosely with foil. Let rest for 5 minutes then slice thinly against the grain.

    Meanwhile, combine chickpeas, tomatoes, onion, oil and vinegar in a large bowl.

    Serve salad topped with slices of steak. Garnish with fresh basil.
