Place cedar plank in a roasting pan and cover with water. Weigh plank down with some heavy cans to submerge. Soak at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.

  • 2

    Preheat barbecue to high.

  • 3

Stir orange juice with corn starch in a small bowl until dissolved. Place blueberries, shallot, butter and salt in a foil pie plate. Stir in juice mixture until well combined. Tightly cover plate with foil.

  • 4

Reduce heat on one side of barbecue to medium. Place plank on medium side and foil plate on high side. Barbecue, lid closed, until plank starts to smoke, about 5 minutes. Place cheese on plank. Continue barbecuing, lid closed, until cheese starts to soften and berries turn saucy, about 10 minutes. Berries do not need to be stirred. If plank catches fire, immediately spray with water and reduce heat under plank.

  • 5

Turn off grill and carefully remove berry sauce. Remove foil, stir in basil and transfer to a serving bowl. Transfer cheese to a cheese board or plate. Spoon some of the blueberry sauce over the cheese and the remainder on the side, with a mix of crackers, flatbread or slices of baguette.
