This decadent French onion dip recipe will be the talk of the table at your next dinner party. Caramelized onion, beef broth, red wine and Gruyere cheese combine to make this appetizer the perfect compliment to a night guests will never forget.

    Position rack in centre of oven, then preheat to 350°F. Spray a 2-L baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

    Heat a large frying pan over medium. Add butter, then onions, garlic, thyme, salt and mustard powder. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are very soft and caramelized, about 25 minutes.

    Stir in beef broth and red wine. Increase heat to high and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and stir in cream cheese, sour cream and 1/2 cup of the Gruyere.

    Spread mixture into prepared dish and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of the Gruyere. Bake until bubbly and golden, 10 to 12 minutes.

    Sprinkle with parsley and serve immediately with sliced toasted baguette.
