If you haven’t already seen it, you can catch Walmart’s teddy bear commercial below:
Bring holiday magic home
It’s the story of a GUND plush brown bear that, at first, doesn’t appear to fit in. This commercial tugs at your heartstrings from beginning to end.
The commercial has caused demand to skyrocket, but if you can’t find the exact bear in the commercial, check out some of his other fuzzy, stuffed friends from GUND!
In the opening scene, we see a classic plush brown bear sitting quietly on a Walmart shelf. He appears lonely and out of place as holiday shoppers reach over him, under him, and around him in an effort to scoop trendier toys into their carts.
By store closing, the shelves have been well picked over. The bear sits with no one within arm’s reach, the store lights shut off abruptly … and the soulful recording of “Bring It on Home to Me” by Sam Cooke is heard through the store PA system. Heartwrenching? You bet.
What does a Christmas teddy bear do at Walmart after hours?
The bear spends a lonely night much in the same way we might: he walks through dark, quiet store aisles like they were dimly lit streets, he tries reading a book but the words just don’t sink in, he mindlessly scrolls through a tablet, and ends up eating his feelings away as he stuffs his face into a tub of Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
I won’t give away the whole story, but I will say that the bear’s story ends on a happy holiday note. Walmart Canada’s message is clear this season: Holiday magic starts with believing.
