Welcome to E3, let’s level up your experience!

The biggest annual event in the video game industry is just around the corner, so let’s get you geared up for the biggest show on Earth, E3! You might be thinking, “Is it really that exciting?” The short answer: Yes, yes, it is. I’ve attended the show three times, once as a fan and the rest as a member of the media. Every single time I’ve gone to E3 there’s always been an incredible surprise, whether it’s a chance meeting with an industry idol or other unpredictable fun. A key example is during my very first visit to the big show in 2005 had had me come face-to-face with the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. Or how about that time I rode a dragon from Middle-earth: Shadow of War!

When trying to sum up the magic that is E3, just imagine the biggest names, games and over the-top-spectacles to grab your attention. You start to get an idea of the indescribable energy that surrounds the show. If you are a gamer, E3 needs to be on your bucket list. Whether you are making your pilgrimage this year or enjoying the show from home, I’ve got the key details to help you get the most out of your experience.

What is E3?

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, is the biggest event for video games and the interactive entertainment industry as a whole. Tens of thousands of developers, members of the media, and fans descend upon L.A. to experience the excitement and innovation of what’s coming next in the gaming industry.

Where does E3 take place?

The central part of the show takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center right in the heart of LA. It’s within walking distance to other major venues such as Xbox Plaza, which plays host to many of Microsoft’s E3 activities. But it’s worth the walk for the spectacle alone.

When is E3 2019?

E3 takes place from Tuesday, June 11th – Thursday, June 13th 2019. If you are planning a trip to attend the show, I highly recommend getting into the city a few days early, as many events such as EA Play and Xbox Fan Fest take place before the show actually begins. These events are limited to a certain capacity and Xbox Fan Fest is all about luck of the draw, so apply today if you hope to attend. Good luck!

How much does it cost to get into E3 2019?

The current price for a pass for the general public is $249 USD, which grants you access to all 3 days of E3. If you are looking for more detailed information about passes, check the E3 site.

What is the schedule for E3 2019 press conferences?

As I mentioned before, E3 proper runs from June 11th – 13th this year, but many key events take place before the doors to the LA Convention Center even open. Below I have detailed the schedule released thus far with key manufactures’ and publishers briefing dates and times.

Friday, June 7th 2019

Electronics Arts kicks off its EA Play event at Hollywood Palladium and this is always a great way to go hands-on with unreleased titles. The lines are often long, but it’s the only way to play certain titles months ahead of their street date. Talk about some serious bragging rights!

Saturday, June 8th, 2019

Nintendo’s first event of E3 is an esports tournament featuring top players from around the globe facing off in a winner-takes-all showdown. The first competition is the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019 3v3, the event will be streamed live. The second is the Splatoon 2 World Championship where you can watch some of the world’s top squid squads battle it out for gaming glory.

Keep up to date with all of Nintendo’s breaking E3 plans here. More information around a Nintendo Direct is also likely forth coming.

Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Microsoft kicks off their Xbox E3 briefing June 9th at 1PM PT / 4 PM ET. This is one you’ll definitely want to tune in for, as rumours are abundant that the company might show off next-gen hardware along with more Halo Infinite news. I love traditional press conferences like these because they’re so exciting and have the potential to feature game-changing announcements.

Developer Bethesda will also have their press conference on the 9th, but little is known about what they could be showing off at this time. They usually tend to bring their “A game” with big surprise announcements, making it another must watch!

Monday, June 10th, 2019

Ubisoft will be hosting their keynote June 10 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET.  There hasn’t been much in the way of confirmed titles yet, but rumors are swirling that Watch Dogs 3 reveal might be incoming. I also have my fingers and toes crossed for a Splinter Cell related announcement. It’s a fantastic franchise you should totally check out!

Tuesday, June 11th, 2019

Historically, Nintendo has its video direct around this time, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
